Question 1

The "Rhetorical Repetition" essay from earlier this week includes several examples of "awkward repetition": places where the same word clumsily appears a second time in that sentence or at least in a nearby sentence—almost, it seems, without the writer even noticing.

Use these next few questions to edit those sentences. There is no "right" answer, but if you type your suggested revision in the text box, you'll get to see a possible way to improve the sentence.

Awkward Repetition : " Both restrictions are both quite broad."

Rewrite the full sentence.

Question 2

Awkward Repetition : "The league was for 14-16 year olds. Felicia was the youngest player. Team tryouts are very competitive. Being selected for the league gave her confidence after having difficulty making friends in school after moving."

Rewrite the final sentence in the example—the sentence that begins with the words "Being selected . . . "

Question 3

Awkward Repetition : "It is clear that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Vacant buildings, crime, and foreclosures still exist."

Rewrite the full sentence.
